USS Nimitz (CVN 68) personnel from the Air Department assisted the community at the Key Peninsula Lutheran Church on Dec. 15 with the Backpack 4 Kids program.

The program provides food and school supplies for children in the community.

The event was organized by Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handling 3rd Class Petty Officer Michael Pascerella, whose aunt Karen Jorgenson is the coordinator of the church’s Social Services Ministries.

This is the first community relations project the Nimitz has been involved with since arriving in Bremerton on Dec. 9.
